Before Wilma Wijnen became interested in photography, she had a career in the insurance
industry as “Senior Closer and Specialist in Business Transport Insurance”.
After working in this industry for 23 years, she thought it was time to do something new.
In 2003 she set up her own travel organization and developed trips as a tour operator to
Namibia, South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania. In Africa she became fascinated by the colours, the
views, the flora and fauna. This is how mher passion for photography started.
After some time she wanted to delve further into photography and attended the Photography
School in Apeldoorn from 2007 to 2010, specializing in portrait photography. She also became
interested in landscape, architecture and industrial photography and attended various master
classes and workshops.
Artist Statement
My great passion is photography.
Light, shapes and color play an important role in my photography work.
I am always focused on the light. Everything that radiates light attracts my attention. Such as in
nature, the sun and moon, but also urban architecture, blast furnace complexes, oil refineries or
ships in the evening light.
The challenge for me is to play with the different shapes, colors and light. I'm trying to do
something special with this. My starting point is reality. I use different photographic techniques
while photographing and in post-processing. With these techniques I create a new reality, where
color, shape and light coincide for me in a new creation and it corresponds to the emotion I feel.
