Jutta Legien-Vaya has a BSc in Pharmacy, an MA in English Literature and Linguistics and physical education and worked as pharmacist assistant and high school teacher (England, Germany, Greece). Simultaneously she was engaged in volunteer work for the United Nations and Doctors of the World and as a violinist in various ensembles. She studied art with teachers in Canada, Germany and Greece, amongst others with Tetsis-scholoar Evangelos Athinaios and exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Greece, Italy and the USA.

In various techniques she paints different subjects like abstract, portrait, landscape, flowers, still life. During the last years she has concentrated on the connection between music (mainly classical) and painting. Through her paintings, which reflect both northern and southern outlooks on life, she wants to raise awareness that human emotions and experiences, life and death are universal, and her colours aim to make people overcome their differences. The sunshine and the bright colours of Greece have influenced her colour palette, through which she wants to give people hope for the future, however bleak current times may be.

Her art works are in private and public selections in Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Sweden, USA; some are book title pages. Exhibitions support a soup kitchen, Doctors of the World and the Anti-Cancer Society (Athens).

Jutta Legien-Vaya is a native German living in Athens since 1985. She is married to Prof. Dr. Dr.h.c. Ioannis Vayas and has 2 children.
